I’ve never been confident enough to work out in “just” a sports bra. Not on a long run on a hot day, not during a yoga, and not during a sweaty HIIT session. It’s just something I’ve always had my personal hang ups about.
We’ve had a hotter-than-usual spring this year, and my favorite place to work out is outside. I’m tired of soaking through shirts – it’s gross and uncomfortable. So, I decided I was finally going to take the plunge and learn to love how I looked and felt in “just” a sports bra.
Being comfortable has definitely been a journey, and I feel like I’m still taking baby steps. I had to find one that felt like it was long enough to give good torso coverage, and supportive enough to get me through any kind of workout.
I found this one from The Gap and decided it might be a good fit It’s kind of a crop-top-meets sports-bra situation. I like the higher neckline so I don’t feel super exposed, and the knot detail is fun.
While I’m excited I finally found one sports bra I’m not afraid to be seen in, I know I still have a lot of work to do before I’m totally confident in my own skin. For example, the thought of rolling up to Old Port Pub Run and running on Portland’s Eastern Prom in just a bra makes my skin crawl. And I definitely won’t be having any Brandi Chastain moments any time soon. But for now? For now this seems like a good first step.
