Once it’s safe to travel again, where do you want to go?
Since we can’t currently travel anywhere new these days, on Tuesdays during quarantine, I’ll be featuring somewhere I want to travel & an imaginary itinerary. It’s fun to daydream about new places to explore, and it will give me so many ideas for my next trip! This week: Santorini, Greece!
In this case it’s where I can’t wait to go back to: Santorini.
While cooped up in the house, I’ve been dreaming of returning to Santorini. (I may have even day dreamed a little too hard and planned out an entire destination wedding on Pinterest….)
Matt and I went there in the summer of 2016, and we’ve often talked about retiring to the island some day. It’s unlike any place I’ve ever been. It goes without saying that you’re surrounded by beauty at every turn, but beyond that, the locals are probably the nicest people on the planet.
Oh, and the wine. The wine is amazing.
What I’d do:
- Hike from Fira to Oia, Santorini’s two main towns. There’s a hiking trail that goes up over the island and links the cities. We didn’t do this hike, but it’s top of my list when we return!
- Visit the ruins of Akrotiri, a bronze age settlement that may have been the inspiration for the myth of Atlantis!
- Go on a donkey ride – I didn’t do this the first time around, and I wish I had!
- Wine tours, wine tours, and more wine tours. Pro tip: when driving around on the island, if you see a road sign with grapes on it, follow it – it means there’s a vineyard nearby!
